High Pyrenees trek – 10 days in Spain and France

Two beautiful countries, three lively towns, eight stunning day hikes, nine nights…

Two beautiful countries, eight stunning hikes, three lively towns and a hotel on a mountain pass, nine nights in our four favourite hotels, and countless delightful restaurant and refugio meals all in a ten day adventure!

Spend a day or two in Barcelona or Madrid before you hop a high speed train to Zaragoza to meet Martha and our group. Our Hike Pyrenees vans will bring us to our first stop at the ancient cobblestoned village of Torla, gateway to Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park. We’ll hike high above the valley floor on the lush and airy Racon de las Flores trail.

Day hikes with amazing views

A hike into France is next, up and over historic Puerto de Bujaruelo pass and down to the delightful little village of Gavarnie. North of the divide, this high Pyrenees village is surrounded by snowy north faces and countless waterfalls, and of course some memorable french cuisine. Over the next two days we’ll hike to the Cirque du Gavarnie to lunch on the terrace near the celebrated waterfalls, and take a high line back to town. We’ll also drive to a beautiful lake and hike back to Gavarnie among terraced alpine sheep farms below more lofty peaks.

Explore the local scenery

After our hike back to Torla we’ll drive up into the lovely Vallé de Tena. Two nights in Sallent de Gallego, a tiny town with skinny cobblestone alleys, lively bars and street music, plus a hike next to Rio Aguas Limpias (river of clean waters!) to the snowy peaks surrounding lakeside Refugio Respomuso for lunch.

Back to France and the Vallee d’Ossau, we’ll ride a gondola and an airy tourist train 600 m above the valley floor to get way back into the valley, then enjoy a remote hike to a panoramic high pass, and a downhill hike back to our final mountain pass hotel at Col du Portalet. One more great cross country hike among ibex and final celebrations here, toasting our adventures together!
