Savour seven days of stunning hiking in southern Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio, from lush and centuries-old farming valleys to high plateaux and mountain passes that link our valleys. Walk cobblestone streets of vibrant Bormio, where we will meet and visit their fabulous mineral baths to wash away our jetlag. As we traverse the southern slopes of the Ortler range, we’ll explore the landscapes of the three main valleys. We’ll become familiar with the bigger Gran Zebru, Ortler and Cevedale peaks, viewing first their west slopes, then their south and east flanks.

We’ll spend two nights in each of three carefully selected hotels, and one night in two extra irresistible locations. First Bormio, then Santa Catarina di Valfurva, then to the Peio valley with its lovely little Peio Alto village perched high on a steep mountain side. Collectively called the Val di Sole, this area is known for lovely malgas – the local multi-family summer mountain farms. Small and delightful malgas offer their farm cheeses and hearty hiker lunches, complete with wine and beer and gorgeous mountain views. As we traverse from the Peio to the Rabbi valleys over the high Passo Cercen, we’ll spend a night up high at the Malgha Monte Sole. In Rabbi, one of our last dinners will be catered by our family-run hotel hosts, and the other dinner with the very fun and well-travelled owners of the local pub who wish to offer us a celebratory last meal with toasts to all our adventures.

Each day of this trip will have a shorter and longer hiking option. We will meet as our whole group for our lunches, which will mostly be at refugios or malgas. If you and your favourite travel partner have different wishes for the level of challenge on your hikes, this is the best trip for you!
